Piazza Bra is Verona's main square, a 10 minute walk from our apartment. On the north side is the 'Liston', a wide pavement lined with restaurants and bars.
It is now thankfully pedestrianised. In the evenings the Veronese like to 'promenade' on the Liston and along Via Mazzini to Piazza Erbe and back.
On the east side is the Arena, the Roman amphitheatre now famous for its opera season in July and August.
Via Mazzini begins at the Arena.
In the middle of the Piazza is a pleasant shady garden and fountain.
On the west side is the Gran Guardia building and the old city walls where you can find the helpful Tourist Office.
There is a large taxi rank in the Piazza.
Bicycles can be rented by the day here.
Via Mazzini is Verona's fashionable shopping street. Leave your wallet behind - strictly window shopping. Here you will find all the big names: - Gucci, Prada, Cartier etc. etc.!!
But it is also the site of the evening 'passegiata' or promenade up and down from Piazza Bra to Piazza Erbe.
